Glasford Under 18 Rugby
3rd Oct 2024
Today marked a new chapter in our rugby history, with our U18 squad pairing up with Glastry College to form an amalgamated team at an Ulster Rugby 7s blitz event held at Ards Rugby Club .
With both schools missing some player due to injury, unavailability or being double booked with a football match, we took 9 along today, most of whom play together at either Donaghadee Rugby Club or Ards, but looking forward we plan to enter the High Schools U18 fixtures with a joint 15 a side team.
'Glasford' played matches v Bangor Academy A and B teams, and Priory Integrated College (many of whom were playing rugby for their first ever time), winning all 3 of our games in tightly contested fixtures.
We finished off the event with another amalgamation, this time welcoming Priory's players into the mix to play Bangor Academy in a short 15 a side match, which went the way of the Bangor men.
All boys were a credit to themselves, their coaches and their respective Colleges, and I look forward to developing this partnership with our neighbours (and friendly rivals) Glastry, and to quote SIC Rugby Club captain and Head Boy, Jed, 'Rugby was the winner today!'
Special mention goes to GC pupil Peter who, at several occasions throughout the event, supported the less experienced Priory players (even as the opposition), showing them what and how to perform in different roles.
